Game market on the increase thanks to Christmas venison sales

Sales of game at Christmas could see this sector break through the £100million sales barrier in 2015.
Recent Mintel research has reported that the game meat market is expected to increase from 2014 and continue increasing with sales forecast to be around £143m by 2020.
This growth in the game meat market has been driven by venison sales which have increased from 13% to 17% over the last year. And while this year has been strong it is forecast to keep growing year on year.
This Christmas has seen our Sainsbury’s rack of venison sold out and overall sales of all venison up 115%. Susi Richards, head of food at Sainsbury’s said “It used to be that these sorts of meats were only ordered in restaurants. Now, for a special occasion like Christmas, people want to recreate the experience at home.”
This is fantastic news for us and we hope that long may it continue and that consumers continue to expand their repertoire of meat and try new things. Our venison is available all year round and we also sell seasonal game via our website.
